SUMMARY:53rd Annual Alabama-Mississippi Social Work Education Conference
DESCRIPTION:Field Instructor Pre-Conference: Wednesday\, September 24th at 5:30 p.m. Full Conference kicks off at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday\, September 25th\n\n\n53rd Annual AL-MS SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION CONFERENCE\nHosted bySocial Work Department\, Auburn University \n \nThe Alabama-Mississippi Social Work Education Conference invites you to participate in our 53rd Annual Conference\, “Preparing Social Work Students and Educators to Build Communities in a Divided World”. T \nhe 2025 annual meeting will be held in at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center\, 241 College St.\, Auburn\, AL 36830 \n \nOUR HISTORY:\nFrom 1969 to 1971\, social work faculty from the southern states met four times a year as part of a faculty development project of the Southern Regional Education Board. When the project ended\, faculty from Alabama and Mississippi schools decided to form a conference to further the bonds they had developed. \nObjectives of the conference were: to promote the transfer of information among schools providing social welfare education courses in the states of Alabama and Mississippi; to provide a forum for issues and problems of regional importance for the two states; and to enable individual schools and faculty members to be sensitive and responsive to the changing demands of social work education. The first three conferences were hosted by the University of Alabama\, and starting in 1975 the conference was rotated among social work programs in the two states.\nToday\, representatives from all 27-CSWE accredited social work programs in Alabama and Mississippi and programs from surrounding states participate in the annual conference. Many of these programs bring their students who participate in programming and seek out employment and further educational opportunities. \n \nHOTEL INFORMATION: The Hotel at Auburn University & Dixon Conference Center. \nThe Conference Committee has secured a deeply discounted rate ($189/night plus taxes) for a limited number of rooms at the official conference hotel: \nTo reserve your discounted room\, please use the following link: \nhttps://be.synxis.com/?Hotel=75989&Chain=10237&arrive=2025-09-24&depart=2025-09-26&adult=1&child=0&group=250924SCOL \n \nRooms at the discounted rate are limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. SUMMARY:West Alabama Minority Small Business Matchmaker
DESCRIPTION:Business Matchmakers are a great opportunity for small businesses to connect with government agencies and prime contractors one-on-one.\n\n\n How Does Matchmaking Work? \nIn the aim to connect two businesses (aka the buyer and the supplier)\, business matchmaking makes the use of data to make an ideal connection and a targeted match. \nA buyer is any entity looking to procure a product or a service. \nA supplier is a small business\, a diverse business or anyone looking to sell their products and services. \nThe idea to match the right buyer with the right supplier is the essence of what business matchmaking does. \nBuyers and large prime contractors will be seated at tables. Small businesses will be able to meet with them on a one-on-one basis for ten minute increments. When time is up\, small businesses must conclude and allow for the next small business. \nIn order to have the best matches for you to meet we need the following: \n\nDeveloped “elevator pitch”\nBusinesses should be atleast 3 years old\nHave obtained SAM.gov registration/DUNS#\nCapability Statement\nNAICS codes\n\nMatchmaker Pitch – aids businesses in a clear concise overview of the business\, the service it provides and which will allow small businesses the opportunity to present/pitch their company capabilities to a panel of judges. The judges will review presentations and provide feedback on each company’s pitch\, and their Capability Statement. These pitch sessions will help prepare companies to meet one-on-one with government buyers at the Matchmaker event. \nA data universal numbering system or DUNS number is a unique\, nine-digit series of numerals that identifies a business. Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) creates the number\, which generates a business profile in its database and provides a company’s name\, phone number\, address\, number of workers and line of business\, along with other relevant corporate information. The DUNS number is standard business identifier for federal government. \nSAM.gov is the primary supplier database for the U.S. Federal government\, collecting\, validating and storing data from suppliers and then making that data available to various government acquisition agencies. Your business MUST be registered in SAM to sell to the federal government. \nCapability Statement – Think of a capability statement as the resume for your small business. It should act as a blueprint for your business’s services and/or products. It provides detailed information to potential clients to help them make the choice to utilize your business for their needs. While capability statements are a must-have for all small businesses\, there is not a singular capability statement template that encompasses all. As each small business is different\, so is each capability statement. There are\, however\, basic elements of a capability statement template that each business should include. These elements are listed below: \n\nCore competencies\nPast performance\nDifferentiators\nCorporate data\nContact information\n\nNAICS codes are used for many purposes\, but one of the most important is that the Small Business Administration uses them to set size standards for particular businesses to be considered “small” in order to qualify for various small business-related programs. The SBA’s table of size standards\, based on NAICS codes\, can be found here: https://www.sba.gov/document/support–table-size-standards. You’ll note that in certain industries\, size standards are based on gross receipts\, while in other industries it is based on total number of employees. NAICS codes are important: \n\nTo compete for government purchase contracts or grants (both federal and state);\nTo obtain disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) certification\, you need to meet the SBA size standards for your NAICS code\, and you obtain certification for your particular code(s) only;\nTo become SBA certified;\nTo become a VA-certified veteran owned small business (VOSB) or a service-disabled veteran owned small business (SDVOSB);\nTo become a woman owned small business (WOSB); or\nIt may be used when applying for commercial loans\, to compare your business to similar businesses

SUMMARY:From Idea To Presentation: Finding Your Voice Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-person workshop to learn how to take your idea and turn it into a presentation you can give with confidence.\n\n\nThis two-day in-person workshop will be held at the office of the Alabama 911 Board at 1 Commerce Street\, Suite 620 Montgomery AL 36104 \nSpeakers will include: \nLauren Sisler\, ESPN Sportscaster/Inspirational Speaker \nLeah Missildine\, Executive Director\, Alabama 911 Board \nDawn Shumway\, Instructor with the Denise Amber Lee Foundation/Comms Director \nRicardo Martinez\, II\, Founder\, Within the Trenches Media \nSara Weston\, Founder/Executive Director\, 911der Women\, Inc. \nSo\, you’ve never presented before an audience (whether live or virtual)\, but you have this seed of an idea for a session that you know would be absolutely brilliant! How do you go from inspiration\, aka the “lightbulb” phase to having a PowerPoint you can be proud of? How do you take that giant step forward in finding the confidence to find your voice and speak on that topic that is important to you and your industry? We’ve all heard it time and time again: FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY! But what if the fear is just so suffocating or you don’t know where to even begin with translating your idea into a reality? This workshop is all about helping you to convert that idea into a presentation that you can share with the world. You will learn all about how brainstorming is your friend\, and how to write an abstract that captures the essence of what you want your session to say. You will get valuable information on how to plot an outline\, build a PowerPoint\, and plan on learning objectives for your attendees. Subject matter experts will give you the tools to empower you to take your thoughts from paper to the stage\, and finally create and deliver that presentation you’ve been wanting to make! \nObjectives for the workshop: \n1. To motivate attendees to think about what topics are important to them or what discussions they feel are worth exploring. We want attendees to think about what their “dream presentation” would look like. Is their presentation based off of a topic they’ve already seen covered before? If so\, how do they plan to expound on this topic\, or offer a different viewpoint? What format would it fall in: lecture-style\, open forum\, or an interactive workshop? \n2. To explore the process from brainstorming to planning to creating to presenting. Brainstorm a bunch. Plan for success. Create from your heart. Present with passion. The goal is to bring heart and passion to whatever the topic of your choosing is\, and\, above all\, have fun through the process. \n3. To demonstrate (from a personal standpoint) how writing up a presentation doesn’t have to feel like you’re writing Beethoven’s 10th Symphony! It all starts with an IDEA. Start with what you know! Go from there\, and be confident in knowing that no one is better equipped to deliver your presentation than you are. \n4. To empower attendees to take all of the information they’ve learned and content they’ve created and share their ideas with the 911 community and beyond. \nTakeaways for attendees: \n1. Attendees will walk into the workshop with an idea and a laptop\, and walk out with a session\, slide deck\, and lessons on how to present. \n2. Attendees will learn how to write abstracts and session descriptions in a way to give them the best chance at getting their session selected for in person or virtual conferences. \n3. Attendees will have hands-on training from subject matter experts. \n \nAttendees will receive a workbook and lunch will be provided. \n \nThank you to our partners\, INdigital and RapidDeploy for making this workshop possible and FREE to attendees! \nIf you have questions\, please email Amanda@911derWomen.com.
