Lee County Receives $1.45 Million in Energy Assistance Funds

The Alabama Council on Human Relations Inc., which serves Lee County, has received $1.45 million as part of nearly $44.5 million awarded by Gov. Kay Ivey to 18 community agencies across Alabama. These funds will provide emergency utility assistance to help low-income households cover heating and cooling costs.

Supporting Families in Need
For many Alabama families, high energy bills can force difficult choices between paying for utilities, purchasing food, or affording medication. This funding will offer critical relief, ensuring that vulnerable households can maintain a safe and comfortable living environment year-round.

Gov. Ivey’s Statement
“Unfortunately, there are times when some Alabama families must decide between paying utility costs and other essential expenses like buying medicine and groceries,” said Gov. Ivey. “I am pleased to award these funds to provide temporary assistance to keep families from having to make decisions that could jeopardize their health and welfare, particularly during the winter and summer months.”
