The Community Action Association of Alabama recognizes July 2025 as National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. This month is an important opportunity to raise awareness about the unique mental health challenges faced by racial and ethnic minority communities and to promote equity in mental health care.
Bebe Moore Campbell, a celebrated author, advocate, and co-founder of NAMI Urban Los Angeles, championed the need for mental health awareness and accessible services in underserved communities. Her legacy lives on as we continue to fight for systems that ensure all people—regardless of race, ethnicity, or zip code—can receive culturally responsive, affordable, and high-quality mental health support.
This month, we reaffirm our commitment to:
-
Reducing stigma surrounding mental health in communities of color
-
Promoting access to inclusive, community-based care
-
Supporting families, youth, and individuals with culturally competent mental health resources
-
Advocating for policies that close gaps in mental health services
Mental health is a human right, and we must work together to ensure everyone has the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.
